Maida / all-purpose flour – 1½ cups

Cocoa powder – ¼ cup

Sugar – ¾ cup

Baking soda – ½ tsp

Baking powder – 1 tsp

Salt – a pinch

Oil – ½ cup

Milk – 1 cup

Vanilla essence – 1 tsp

Lemon juice or vinegar – 1 tbsp

In a bowl, sieve flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and sugar.

Add oil, milk, vanilla essence, and lemon juice. Mix gently to form a smooth batter.

Grease a cake tin and pour the batter.

Preheat a heavy pan or cooker on low flame for 10 minutes.

Place the cake tin inside, cover, and cook on low flame for 35–40 minutes.

Check with a toothpick; if it comes out clean, cake is done.
