🍲 Veg Dal Tadka Recipe (Restaurant Style)


Veg Dal Tadka is a comforting Indian lentil dish made with cooked dal, spices, and a flavorful tempering. It pairs perfectly with rice or roti.


📝 Ingredients


Toor dal – ½ cup


Moong dal – ¼ cup


Water – 3 cups


Onion – 1 medium (chopped)


Tomato – 1 medium (chopped)


Ginger-garlic paste – 1 tsp


Green chilli – 1 (slit)


Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp


Red chilli powder – ½ tsp


Salt – to taste


Oil or ghee – 2 tbsp



For Tadka


Ghee – 1 tbsp


Mustard seeds – ½ tsp


Cumin seeds – ½ tsp


Dry red chilli – 1


Garlic – 4 cloves (sliced)


Curry leaves – 6–8



👩‍🍳 How to Make Veg Dal Tadka


1. Wash and pressure-cook dal with water and turmeric until soft. Mash lightly.



2. Heat oil or ghee in a pan. Add cumin and mustard seeds.



3. Add onion and sauté until golden.



4. Add ginger-garlic paste and green chilli. Fry for a minute.



5. Add tomatoes, red chilli powder, and salt. Cook until soft.



6. Add cooked dal and simmer for 5 minutes.


For Tadka:

7. Heat ghee in a small pan. Add garlic, dry red chilli, mustard seeds, and curry leaves.

8. Pour hot tadka over dal and mix gently.


🍽️ Serving Suggestions


Serve hot with steamed rice, jeera rice, roti, or chapati.

Add a little butter for richer taste.


Adjust water for thick or thin dal consistency.
