🍅 Tomato Rasam Recipe (Simple South Indian Style)
Tomato Rasam is a light, tangy South Indian soup made with tomatoes, spices, and tamarind. It is comforting, healthy, and perfect with hot rice.
📝 Ingredients
Ripe tomatoes – 2 (chopped)
Tamarind – small lemon-sized (soaked in water)
Rasam powder – 1½ tsp
Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
Garlic – 2 cloves (crushed)
Green chilli – 1 (slit)
Curry leaves – 8–10
Mustard seeds – ½ tsp
Cumin seeds – ½ tsp
Dry red chilli – 1
Oil or ghee – 1 tsp
Salt – to taste
Coriander leaves – for garnish
Water – 2 cups
👩🍳 How to Make Tomato Rasam
1. Crush tomatoes lightly and add to a pot.
2. Add tamarind water, turmeric, salt, garlic, green chilli, and curry leaves.
3. Boil on medium flame for 7–8 minutes.
4. Add rasam powder and simmer for 2 minutes (do not overboil).
5. Heat oil or ghee in a small pan. Add mustard, cumin, dry red chilli, and curry leaves.
6. Pour the tempering over rasam and mix well.
7. Garnish with coriander leaves and turn off the heat.

Serve hot with steamed rice, papad, and potato curry.
🌟 Tips
Do not boil rasam after adding rasam powder for best flavor.
Add a pinch of pepper powder for extra taste.
