Medu Vada is a classic South Indian snack made from urad dal batter, deep-fried until golden and crisp. It’s perfect for breakfast or evening snacks.
📝 Ingredients
Urad dal – 1 cup (soaked 4–5 hours)
Green chilli – 1–2 (finely chopped)
Ginger – 1 tsp (grated)
Black pepper – ½ tsp (crushed, optional)
Curry leaves – 8–10 (chopped)
Onion – 2 tbsp (finely chopped, optional)
Salt – to taste
Oil – for deep frying
👩🍳 How to Make Medu Vada
Grind soaked urad dal into a thick, fluffy batter using very little water.
Add salt, green chilli, ginger, pepper, curry leaves, and onion. Mix well.
Heat oil on medium flame.
Wet your hand, take a small portion of batter, shape into a vada, and make a hole in the center.
Gently slide into hot oil and fry until golden and crisp on both sides.
Remove and drain on tissue paper.

Serve hot with coconut chutney and sambar.
