How to make crackers
Here’s a simple way to make homemade crackers – crispy, crunchy, and perfect as a snack with tea, dips, or cheese.
🥨 Ingredients:
All-purpose flour (maida) – 1 cup
Whole wheat flour – ½ cup (optional, for healthier version)
Baking powder – ½ tsp
Salt – ½ tsp (adjust to taste)
Butter or oil – 2 tbsp
Water – ¼ cup (add as needed)
Optional toppings: sesame seeds, ajwain (carom seeds), chilli flakes, black pepper, oregano
🍴 Method:
1. Mix dry ingredients
In a bowl, combine flour(s), baking powder, and salt.
Add butter/oil and rub with fingers until the mixture looks crumbly.
2. Form dough
Slowly add water and knead into a firm, smooth dough.
Rest it for 15 minutes covered.
3. Roll & shape
Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).
Roll the dough thin (2–3 mm) on a floured surface.
Cut into squares, rectangles, or round shapes using a knife or cookie cutter.
4. Season
Place on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
Brush lightly with oil or butter, sprinkle sesame seeds/ajwain/chilli flakes if you like.
5. Bake
Bake for 12–15 minutes or until golden and crisp.
Let them cool completely to turn crunchy.
🔹 Tips:
For extra crispiness, flip crackers halfway through baking.
Store in an airtight container – stays fresh for 1–2 weeks.
You can also make in a tawa (pan): cook rolled-out crackers on low flame until crisp on both sides (like khakhra)
