Tomato bath recipe

 

Here’s a simple Tomato Bath Recipe (Tomato Rice / Thakkali Bath) you can try at home:



Ingredients:


Rice – 1 cup


Tomatoes – 3 to 4 (medium, finely chopped or pureed)


Onion – 1 (thinly sliced)


Green chilies – 2 (slit)


Ginger-garlic paste – 1 tsp


Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp


Red chili powder – 1 tsp


Coriander powder – 1 tsp


Garam masala – ½ tsp


Curry leaves – few


Mustard seeds – ½ tsp


Cumin seeds – ½ tsp


Oil / Ghee – 2 tbsp


Water – 2 cups (for cooking rice)


Salt – to taste


Fresh coriander leaves – for garnishing


Method:


1. Cook Rice


Wash and cook rice with 2 cups water. Let it cool and keep aside (grains should be separate).




2. Prepare Masala Base


Heat oil/ghee in a pan.


Add mustard seeds, cumin, and let them splutter.


Add curry leaves, green chilies, and onions. Fry till onions turn golden.


Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté until raw smell goes.



3. Cook Tomatoes


Add chopped/pureed tomatoes, turmeric, chili powder, coriander powder, and salt.


Cook till tomatoes turn soft and oil leaves the sides.



4. Mix Rice


Add cooked rice into the tomato masala.


Mix gently without breaking the grains.


Sprinkle garam masala and mix well.




5. Garnish & Serve


Garnish with fresh coriander leaves.


Serve hot with raita, papad, or pickle.
