How to make Banana bajji
Here’s a simple Banana Bajji (Aratikaya Bajji / Pazham Bajji) recipe 🍌🍴
📝 Ingredients:
Raw banana (plantain) – 2 (not ripe, firm ones)
Gram flour (besan) – 1 cup
Rice flour – 2 tbsp (for crispiness)
Red chili powder – 1 tsp
Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
Carom seeds (ajwain/omam) – ½ tsp (optional, helps digestion)
Baking soda – a pinch (optional, makes bajji fluffy)
Salt – as needed
Water – as required
Oil – for deep frying
🔪 Preparation Steps:
Step 1: Slice Banana
1. Peel raw bananas.
2. Cut into thin, long slices (like potato wedges or lengthwise).
3. Keep the slices in salted water for 5 minutes (prevents blackening).
Step 2: Make Batter
1. In a mixing bowl, add gram flour, rice flour, chili powder, turmeric, ajwain, baking soda, and salt.
2. Add water gradually to make a smooth, slightly thick batter (not too runny).
Step 3: Frying
1. Heat oil in a deep pan/kadai.
2. Dip each banana slice in the batter, coat evenly.
3. Drop gently into hot oil and fry on medium flame until golden brown and crisp.
4. Remove onto paper towels to absorb extra oil.
🌶 Serving Suggestions
Serve hot with coconut chutney, peanut chutney, or tomato ketchup.
In South India, it’s often enjoyed with evening tea/coffee ☕.
