Classic American Apple Pie

Classic American Apple Pie


**Prep Time:** 30 minutes  

**Cook Time:** 50-60 minutes  

**Total Time:** 1 hour 30 minutes

 **Ingredients:**  


**For the Pie Crust:**  

- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour  

- 1 teaspoon salt  

- 1 cup unsalted butter (cold, cut into cubes)  

- 6-8 tablespoons ice water  


 **For the Apple Filling:**  

- 6-7 medium apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or a mix)  

- ¾ cup granulated sugar  

- ¼ cup brown sugar  

- 1 teaspoon cinnamon  

- ¼ teaspoon nutmeg  

- ¼ teaspoon salt  

- 1 tablespoon lemon juice  

- 2 tablespoons cornstarch  

- 1 tablespoon butter (cut into small pieces)  


### **For the Egg Wash:**  

- 1 egg  

- 1 tablespoon milk  


## **Instructions:**  


### **1. Make the Pie Crust**  

1. In a large bowl, mix flour and salt.  

2. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry cutter or fork until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.  

3. Gradually add ice water, one tablespoon at a time, mixing until the dough comes together.  

4. Divide the dough in half, shape into discs, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least **1 hour**.  


2. Prepare the Apple Filling

1. Peel, core, and slice the apples into thin slices.  

2. In a large bowl, toss apples with sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, lemon juice, and cornstarch. Let sit for **10 minutes**.  


3. Assemble the Pie

1. Preheat oven to **375°F (190°C)**.  

2. Roll out one disc of dough on a floured surface to fit a 9-inch pie pan. Place it in the pan and trim excess dough.  

3. Pour the apple filling into the crust and dot with butter pieces.  

4. Roll out the second dough disc and place it over the apples. Trim, seal the edges, and crimp with a fork or fingers. Cut small slits on top for ventilation.  

4. Add Egg Wash & Bake

1. Mix the egg and milk, then brush it over the pie crust for a golden finish.  

2. Bake for **50-60 minutes** or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.  

3. Let cool for **at least 2 hours** before slicing.  


Serving Suggestions:

Serve warm with a scoop of **vanilla ice cream** or a dollop of whipped cream
