1 cup masoor dal (red lentils)

3 cups water

½ tsp turmeric powder

Salt to taste

2 tbsp oil or ghee

1 tsp cumin seeds

4 garlic cloves (sliced)

1 dried red chilli

1 onion (finely chopped)

1 tomato (chopped)

½ tsp red chilli powder

½ tsp garam masala

Wash masoor dal thoroughly.

Pressure cook with water, turmeric, and salt for 2–3 whistles (or cook in a pot for 20–25 minutes until soft).

Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
